Château La Prade
The Côtes de Francs is Bordeaux`s smallest appellation, with only 390 hectares of vineyards. It is located just to the north of the Côtes de Castillon in the Libournais and is reputedly the warmest and driest appellation in Bordeaux. The vines are planted on clay-limestone soils which are similar to those found in St-Emilion.
Château La Prade is owned by Patrick Valette, who also owns Château Troplong-Mondot and used to own Château Pavie in St-Emilion. There are only 4.5 hectares of vineyards, planted with 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
These are medium bodied, moderately tannic wines that are soft, well-balanced and packed with juicy, ripe fruit.
