Dujac


Domaine Dujac was acquired by Jacques Seysses in 1967. The domaine in Morey-St-Denis had 4 hectares of vineyards and he has subsequently built it up to 11.5 hectares. Domaine Dujac now includes holdings in Clos de la Roche, Clos St-Denis, Bonnes-Mares, Echézeaux and Charmes-Chambertin . "Use knowledge and technology to counter accidents - for example, bad weather - but, if all is going well, don't interfere," says Seysses and this principle guides much of what happens in the vineyards and the cellars. Dujac wines are neither filtered nor fined and all of his premiers and grands crus are aged in 100% new oak. These are wines of the very highest order. Jeremy and Jacques Seysses now also make a small range of negociant wines under the label Dujac fils et père.

A good intensity of fruit is on display here; Dujac's  Morey-St Denis may still be restrained but that has not stopped the wine from showing its class and balance.

Perhaps the finest of the three Dujac Fils & Père red wines, Dujac's Chambolle-Musigny displays tightly coiled fruit on the palate and a graceful finish.

Grapes from ancient vines from the Brochon side of Gevrey were picked for this cuvée which in 2006 has greater depth than ever before. Fewer stalks were added and subsequently this wine has a soft, lovely, fruit-ladened finish.

The characteristic wild touch of Morey is clear here. With its deep colour and palate of fresh mulberries, this wine is somewhat backward on the nose yet nonetheless has a persistent finish.

A bright mid-purple in colour, with fine, delicate, raspberry fruit and a touch more structure than the Gevrey, this will be lovely to drink from 2011 to 2013.

Perhaps the pick of these three wines, although the Morey is a close contender, this has very perfumed cherry fruit on the nose and follows on across the palate to the stylish finish.
