Domaine R Ampeau

Domaine Robert Ampeau, located in the region of Puligny-Montrachet in Burgundy, is currently run by Michel Ampeau, after the recent and unfortunate death of his father, Robert, in 2004. The domaine holdings cover about 10 hectares of vineyard, including land in 10 Premier Crus, 4 of which are in Meursault, while the other are scattered around Puligny, Beaune, Blagny and Savigny.

Robert’s methods in the vineyard were often considered innovative: he was one of the first winemakers in Burgundy to allow other plants to grow in between the rows of vines to encourage the roots of the vines to burrow deeper into the soil, in order to find water and nutrients.

Wines from Domaine Ampeau are not released for sale to the public until they are considered truly ready, as in accordance with Robert’s ethos that this shows respect for the product. Despite this fact, when the wines are ready, they are still notable for their youth and clarity.
