The humble Côtes Du Rhône appellation does no justice to the
quality and power of this wine, in many respect a junior sibling to
Château de Beaucastel itself, and keen to master the finer arts of its
brother's majesty. The wine is a blend of 45% Grenache and an unusually high 30%
of Mourvèdre, the balance dominated by 80 year old Cinsault. Despite the
heat of the vintage, the 2003 Coudoulet is maturing wonderfully; fleshy yet
poised with black fruit and spice, ripe yet firmly integrated tannins and a
lick of pepper on the finish. (Simon Field MW, BBR Buyer)

"The 2006 Coudoulet Blanc is made up of 30% Viognier, 30% Clairette, 30%
Bourboulenc and 10% Marsanne; the varieties blended 80% in stainless steel and
20% in small wooden barrels. A stunningly original wine with a profile that
marries the citric to the honied, which, allied to mineral and nutty notes,
make for a satisfyingly complex ensemble." (Simon Field MW, BBR

"Much like it was in 1998, the blend for Beaucastels 2003 Chateauneuf du
Pape includes more Grenache (50%) since that varietal was both consistent and
of high quality. The balance is 20% Mourvedre, and 30% such varietals as Syrah
and Counoise. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by an earthy style,
moderately high levels of tannin, and neither the suppleness nor forward
flamboyance of the 2000 or 2001. Dense, full-bodied, and structured, the 2003
is clearly a vin de garde. It will require 5-6 years of bottle age, and should
drink well for 15-18." 91-93/100 points. (Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
- Dec-04)

"This inky/ruby colured cuvee offers a classic Beaucastel bouquet of new saddle leather, cigar smoke, roasted herbs, black truffles, underbrush, and blackberry as well as cheery fruit. It is a superb, earthy expression of this Mouvedre-dominated cuvee. Full-bodied and powerful, it will undoubtedly close down over the next several years... Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025..." 96/100 pts. (Robert Parker - Wine Advocate - Feb 2004)

Great wines taste better in magnum. As a very fine illustration of this
self-evident truth, try the 2005 from Beaucastel. The power of the 30%
Mourvedre, already evidenced with the notes of charcuterie and bacon rind, will
ensure longevity and an extensive and satisfying chronological crescendo over
the next fifteen years.

The 30% Mourvèdre is evident in the generous colour and savoury nose of the
2006; a big and powerful wine, with tar, liquorice and bonfire in support
of the dense black fruit, the sweetness of which is thus far enigmatically and
subtly shrouded. All will be revealed!
