Domaine Harlaftis

Domaine Harlaftis is located in Stamata and was originally established in 1935 by raisin exporter Nick Athanassiades, owner of a well known agricultural estate on the outskirts of Heraklion, Crete. He planted his first vines on the northern slopes of Mt. Penteli, about 200km north of Athens where his winery was quickly established and he was among the first of the modern producers to bottle and commercialise wine in Greece.

In the late 50's his daughter Adda and her husband Diogenes Harlaftis took over the running of the business and replanted their 2.5 hectare vineyard with both indigenous and imported grape varieties (Assyrtiko, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon) while independent growers in northern Attica supply the Savatiano. Nemea sourced Aghiorghitiko is also used to produce their red wine. The estate is now run by Emily and Nicholas Harlaftis, grandchildren of Nick Athanassiades.
