Château Barreyre
Château Barreyre is a medium sized Médoc estate that can trace its roots back to the 18th century. It was established by Nicolas Barreyre in 1774 and he also built he handsome Chartreuse that is still in use today. The estate is located in the commune of Macau in the far south of the Médoc and its 9 hectares of vineyards are located close to the Gironde estuary.
The wine is a blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. The grapes are hand harvested and are then fermented in temperature controlled vats. The wine is then matured in oak casks (a proportion of which are renewed annually) for 12 months. Château Barreyre produces elegant well-crafted clarets that offer tremendous value of money. It is classified as a Bordeaux Supérieur but produces wine of Cru Bourgeois quality.
