Clos LaChance
Clos la Chance is a premium boutique winery situated in the heart of the Santa Cruz Mountains. It is owned by Bill Murphy, a high-flying Hewlett-Packard executive, and his wife Brenda. It takes its name from Brenda Murphy`s maiden name. The grapes benefit from the excellent local growing conditions, especially in the crucial ripening season with its warm, sunny days followed by cool, crisp nights. Fruit is also sourced from the Napa Valley.
"To me, winemaking is utilizing a product of the land to create an experience of the senses that enhances quality of life", said Stephen Tebb, the new winemaker that has joined to assist in guiding Clos LaChance through a major transition. In 1997, Stephen Tebb was part of Codorniu's transition from a predominately sparkling wine maker to Artesa, a still wine facility located in the Napa Valley. It seems only natural Stephen takes the reins as Clos LaChance makes a significant production shift from making wines solely from purchased fruit to producing wine from ultra-premium Estate grown grapes.
