Maison Joseph Drouhin

Maison Joseph Drouhin is currently run by Frédéric Drouhin with the assistance of his three siblings Philip (vineyards), Laurent (US wine market) and Véronique (oenology). Philippe Drouhin manages the vineyards biodynamically and from the 2009 wine vintage their entire Burgundy holdings, including Chablis, will have ECOCERT organic certification.

Long time oenologist Laurence Jobard, engaged by Robert Drouhin in 1973 retired after the 2005 vintage and been replaced by Jérome Faure-Brac, while Véronique Drouhin remains on hand to provide continuity of style. The Drouhins have a light touch with their wine-making, the aim being to privilege the fruit in the wine, and to this end bottling is earlier than for most producers.

They source their own wood for leading cooper François Frères to turn into barrels, though little new wood is used during maturation. The Drouhins particularly like the appellation of Chorey-lès-Beaune, the first village to the north of Beaune itself, as a source of attractive, inexpensive Burgundian pinot.
