Mas Foulaquier Le Rollier

Mas Foulaquier Le Rollier is an up and coming estate is beautifully situated in the increasingly popular appellation of Pic St Loup, north of Montepellier. Winemaker Pierre Jequier used to make wine in Switzerland but was attracted to the Languedoc by the terroir and exciting potential of the region. After intense research he bought the tiny (8ha) property of Mas Foulaquier at the northernmost end of the appellation.

Le Rollier is one of his top two cuvées (the other being Les Calades) and is made from a blend of 50% Syrah and 50% Grenache. At their best, the wines of Pic St Loup resemble good Châteauneuf-du-Papes, and tend to be much better value. This certainly fits into that category, with its smoky, black-olive and liquorice scent backed up by rich, fleshy, spicy black and red fruit.
