Plantagenet
Plantagenet is located in Mount Barker, Western Australia. The firm started growing grapes in 1968, with 4.5 acres planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. To this were added in 1971 Riesling, Malbec, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Total acreage is now 50 acres, plus another 40 of leased vineyards.
Plantagenet also helps out other growers by allowing them to use their winery. John Wade was the winemaker between 1987 and 1993 and he really put this estate on the map with his intensely peppery Shiraz and elegant and balanced Cabernet Sauvignon. He left to become winemaker at Howard Park and present winemaker Gavin Berry is maintaining the high standards of his predecessor.
