Veuve Amiot

Veuve Amiot can trace its origins back to 1884 when the recently widowed Elizabeth Amiot constructed cellars in Saumur and began producing high quality sparkling wines. The original Veuve Amiot was a shrewd business lady and soon the company became one of the leading sparkling wine houses in the Loire. Nowadays the firm produces over 3 million bottles a year and since 1971 has been owned by the Italian vermouth and sparkling wine producer, Martini e Rossi.

The company`s cellars are located in Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Florent - all the grapes are bought in from carefully selected local growers and are pressed at the firm`s 2 pressing houses at Mesure and Chacé. Monsieur Savary, the technical director, ensures that the quality of these sparkling wines remains high - the Brut, which constitutes the majority of the production, is a blend of 85% Chenin Blanc and 15% Cabernet Franc and is aged in bottle for 9 months before release.
