Domaine Yannick Amirault

Yannick Amirault inherited five hectares from his father, which he added to the estate he had already owned for 16 years. Today he has a total of 11 hectares to manage, comprising eleven at Bourgueil and five at St. Nicolas de Bourgueil. In the last ten years, the wines of this domaine have appeared as the most complex and the most consistent of these two appellations.

Breaking up the cap and pushing it under the fermenting wine is now standard practice and there is no filtering. Yannick's most important formative experience was tasting his grandfather's old vintages. At that time, filtration was unheard of but some of the wines dating back to the turn of the century were still young and had marvellous balance. Yannick's own young vintages are extremely promising themselves and should age comfortably for many years to come. Not filtering is proving to have been a very shrewd option to take.
