Somerset Hill

Somerset Hill is a family-owned and managed vineyard located 17 km west of Denmark in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. It is owned by Graham Upson and he planted the 9 hectares of vineyards with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sémillon, and Sauvignon Blanc in 1995.

Denmark enjoys a maritime climate, similar to that of Bordeaux but marginally cooler. Somerset Hill's vineyard has the highest elevation of any vineyard in Denmark and this results in an unusually long growing season. Consequently, Somerset Hill often harvest their grapes 3 weeks later than vineyards elsewhere in the Great Southern, and this enables wines to be produced of great intensity and length, but also of marked delicacy and finesse. The future looks very promising for Somerset Hill.
