This is sourced from Ch. Suduiraut, one of the legendary Classified Growths of Sauternes. I find this wine to be brilliant with creamy desserts, blue cheese and foie gras; it has wonderful sweetness but is never cloying, possessing brilliant freshness derived from crisp balancing acidity. Worth trying out on guests who claim not to like sweet wine!

2004 was a difficult vintage, but after four journeys through the vines to pick nobly rotten grapes, Château Suduiraut, responsible for this Berry's bottling, was done. It's one of the smallest sauternes crops ever, but given that halves of 2004 Suduiraut cost £30-plus, this lesser label with some of the grand vin's intense, waxy, peach and marzipan fruit is a delight.
