Most top Claret is best described as elegant, classy, precise and
sophisticated, but winemaker Jean-René Matignon always manages to add an extra
quality to the wines of Pichon-Baron: sexiness. Their 1996 has this attribute
in abundance and is now on top form. With its delicious, concentrated fruit
flavours and layers of complexity it will give immense pleasure for current
drinking but will keep until 2020.
