2004 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Clos des Papes Paul Avril et Fils

Vincent Avril, whose 2003 was arguably the wine of the vintage, seems to have produced an even better 2004! With yields even lower, down to 21 hl/ha, but a more traditional growing period, the wine already has more shape and definition, its 65% Grenache providing a firm foundation of rich fruit, built upon by 20% of savoury Mourvedre, 10% Syrah and a 5% mixed bag. A compelling and harmonious wine to underline this Domaines's superb reputation.
