2003 Volnay, Cru, Clos des Chênes, 1er Domaine Michel Lafarge

This is more backward than the Champans above. It has a high-class nose which is ripe, but not blowsy, with dense red, rather than black, fruits. It is very intense right across the palate - a wine for the long term.
