Black fruit, wild blueberries and flower. Baked, oily, intense nose. Elegant
balance, fruity, mineral power and minty finish. Good now but will improve.
From 2010.

Carmenère was, for a long time, confused with Merlot, sharing the ripe
expressive damson fruit of the latter, but sometimes let down by a rather
‘reedy’ and somewhat hollow structure. This example is far from
hollow, but the ripe hedgerow fruit remains, with the 30% Cabernet Sauvignon
adding tannic support and a very complete mouth-feel. The wine has enjoyed an
elevage of 14 months in new French barriques, its concentrated structure more
than a match for such treatment, and the finished wine makes a very good
pairing with roast pork.

"Recently awarded five stars, best wine in Tasting, in not one but two
unrelated Decanter South American Tastings, this gem can now be fairly
described as the greatest expression of old vine Carmenère in the world.
Blueberries, eucalypt and hints of spice; a wine with savoury depth,
finely-wrought tannins and impressive mineral power on the finish. It will be
fascinating to trace the wines development; approachable from 2010."
