2001 Contino, Reserva, Rioja
(code: 63111B)
Jesus Madrazo marries the new and old Spain with this single vineyard wine, its
character informed by old vines and a combination of French and American oak.
Aged in barrels for two years and in bottle for further year in
bottle, this is a blend of Tempranillo 85%, Mazuelo & garnacha 5%, Graciano
10% of selected plots in the Contino Estate. Deep red cherry colour, on nose an
explosion of ripe berry fruits and hints of liquorice and balsamic notes. The
2001 has the substance and the intensity to last until 2018. It is in its
infancy, its fuits both red and black, its tannins still quite assertive Wait a
few years then try with Beef Wellington!
