The dry spiceness of the Northern Highland malts is present in definite but
delicate form in various versions of Balblair, which are made using water that
has flowed in streams over crumbley local peat. The first distillery was built
in 1790 and the present building dates from the 1870s. The Balblair whisky is a
component of the the Ballantines's blends.
