"From three specific sites (' lieux-dits') in the Grand Cru village of Avize,
at the heart of the Côte des Blancs, this wine is from the highest quality
Chardonnay vines, vinified partially in large oak casks, partly in stainless
steel , with the former benefiting from lees stirring to add flavour and
weight. 1997 is a ripe, approachable and very attractive vintage; the toasty
fruit thereby engendered is pleasingly juxtaposed with the more normal
Jacquesson style, vis low 'dosage' and with a flinty minerality. In addition
honey, hazelnuts, blossom and white peach are all evidenced, with the fizz
still energetic and the finish strong." (Simon Field-MW-BBR Buyer)
