Giaconda is one of Australia’s most respected boutique wineries;
established in 1982 by Rick Kintzbrunner, a widely-travelled and gifted
winemaker, the vineyard is located at Beechworth in Victoria, an area which has
justifiably acquired a great reputation for producing wines of finesse and
class, and which enjoys an enviable cool climate within sight of the Victorian
Alps. Initially lauded for the outstanding white wines he produced, Rick has
now achieved equal acclaim for his Pinot Noir, which is extremely Burgundian in
style. Aromas of summer berry fruit abound in youth, and with age the wine
acquires the forest-floor, gamey, truffle-and-mushroom bouquet which is
reminiscent of mature Nuits St Georges. Wonderful finesse and purity combine
with hints of spice to make a beautifully rounded, complete wine.
