From a good Bordeaux vintage sandwiched between the more expensive, more
vaunted 2003 and 2005, this youthful Pauillac, a Merlot, Cab. Sauvignon &
Franc chip off the Pichon Longueville Baron block, has the pedigree of its
sibling at a relatively affordable price. Sweet with smokey vanilla, cedary
aromatic overtones, a core of cassis fruit richness is underscored by an
already highly drinkable palate of juicy acidity and supple tannins.

Tourelles de Longueville (the second wine of Ch. Pichon-Baron) has always been,
and always will be, a firm BB&R favourite. Why? Simple - this is the
epitomy of good claret at a sensible price. It has pedigree and gravitas but it
also has charm and its own identity. The 2004 Tourelles is just coming into its
own now - big volumes of cassis fruit are held together by a firm structure
that is so well-integrated, it is a joy to behold. There is no doubt that this
is a great food wine, but we defy you to buy a case and not end up drinking the
odd bottle on its own.
