1997 Berrys' Own Selection Dalmore Single Highland Malt
(code: 66805B)
Dalmore distillery, located on the banks of the Cromarty Firth, was opened in
1839 by Alexander Matheson. The buildings look over the water to the fertile
Black Isle and a nearby jetty, built by the US Navy when the distillery was
appropriated during WWII is still referred to locally as the Yankee Pier.
Distinguished with an immediate soda bread hit, some rum butter, glazed
cherries and marzipan this malt packs punches beyond its years. The palate is
sinewy and toasty, hugely malty, gristy and rich. The finish ebbs slowly with
some liquorice and orange peel.
