Chateau de Cazeneuve is one of the very best properties in Pic St Loup.
The wine maker, André Leenhardt, like all quality-conscious winemakers,
keeps his yields low, somewhere in the region of 25hl/ha, impressivley modest
for this region. He harvests by hand, practices traditional fermentation
procedures and ages all his wines in barrels, a small percent of which are new.
In addition to Grenache, there is Syrah and Mourvèdre in the blend. The
wines are superb and age extremely well. The red Ch. de Cazeneuve is
deeply-coloured , with an intensly savoury nose with dominant aromas of
roasted meat, dried herbs and crushed peppercorns. The palate is elegant, yet
sufficiently rich, with a smooth fruity (cassis and
blackberries) mouthfeel and flinty tannins. Excellent on its own or for
pairing with red-sauce Italian dishes.
