2004 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Massimo Romeo

"Blessed with a great vintage, this concentrated wine has a richly perfumed loganberry and black fruit nose, with hints of cold tea. The palate is moreishly textured with violet scented chocolate and cherry fruit flavours, pepped up by some racy acidity. For me Vino Nobile still holds its own, despite being the smallest of the Sangiovese-based Tuscan triumvirate. It enjoys some of the structure of Burnello while retaining the freshness of its country cousins in Chiantishire. Regrettably many have resorted to Merlot in an effort to ‘internationalise’ the wines, diluting the wines pedigree…but not so Massimo."
