In 2001 Thibault Liger Belair took over an old family property in
Nuits-St-Georges, taking back the vines which had been contracted out to
various sharecroppers, and leasing a cuverie just down the road. The vines are
now certified organic and farmed biodynamically, with horses used to plough the
vineyards where possible. As well as his own vineyards, Thibault makes a very
limited range of wines from individual vineyard plots which have caught his
attention.
One such is La Toppe au Vert in the village of Ladoix, though curiously this vineyard is always sold as Aloxe Corton, a typical example of the complexities of viticultural Burgundy. The vines were planted in 1965 on a relatively deep soil of fine clay and limestoneThis is a very stylish wine with plenty of meat to it.
