1996 Berrys' Own Selection Arran Island (46%)
(code: 68277B)
The small, almost boutique, Arran distillery at Lochranza in the north of the
island was opened as recently as 1995, yet the spirit already has the feel and
complexity of some long established brands. Golden eagles soar on the thermals
over Goat Fell which towers behind the distillery. Arran is often referred to
as Scotland in miniature such is the variety of the landscape. Emerging aromas
of apple pie, shortbread and citrus emerge. The elegant sweet palate has good
substance building with mandarin and subtle floral notes. A fine nutty, spicy
finish balances the sweetness.
