Casa Lapostolle are the blue bloods of the Chilean wine world, their ownership
boasting impressive French connections, directly through the Marnier family (of
Grand Marnier fame) and indirectly through Champagne Roederer. The wines,
unsurprisingly, marry the natural benevolence for which Chile is so famous,
with an elegance and subtlety which has been nurtured by Bordelais wine-making
guru, Michel Rolland.
The Bordeaux influence can be clearly detected in this wine, its elegance
and complexity underlined by blending with the addition here of
Carmenère, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc to the bed-rock of Cabernet
Sauvignon (85%). The six months in French oak completes the Gallic influence.
The additional bottle age has added refinement and an impressive depth of
flavour.
