Jean-Noel Gagnard is one of the best known names in Chassagne-Montrachet.
Though the eponymous Jean-Noel is still to be seen at the domaine he is long
since retired, handing over to daughter Caroline L’Estimé in 1989.
Having fine-tuned production and developed new markets, Caroline has been
looking to expand by planting vineyards on the slopes just above the village of
St Aubin, notably the single vineyard ‘Clos Bortier’. This
Hautes Côtes de Beaune is matured in oak barrels, though without
using new wood. Since the wine is designed to be drunk relatively young it has
been bottled with a screwcap.
