Domaine de la Charbonnière is better known for their peerless range of
Châteauneufs- Du- Pape, the Marats are especially proud of their
Vacqueyras property, located adjacent to the village of Gigondas in the
foothills of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Etymologically Vacqueyras is an old
Provençal word meaning valley of the stones, quite appropriate given the
nature of the terroir here! The blend is specific; Grenache to add colour,
aromatic intensity and alcoholic warmth, and Syrah, in an unusually high
percentage, to offer elegance and ageing potential.
2006 is a seductive and approachable vintage; this wine is dominated by ripe
black fruit, with a savoury backdrop and a spicy finish. Robust and
full-bodied, this will be a very fine match for hearty Mediterranean
cuisine..
