The brilliant summer of 2005 gives an unusual density of flavour to
Carillon’s Mercurey this year. Not only is there impressive intensity of
ripe red fruit, but a solidly constructed framework which will enable this wine
to develop well in years to come.

Jacques Carillon is renowned as one of the truly great producers of White
Burgundy, but less well-known is the fact that he produces 3 red wines too, 2
from the Cote de Beaune and this startlingly good Mercurey from the Cote
Chalonnaise. 2005 was a brilliant vintage in Burgundy and beautiful weather
yielded perfectly ripe and healthy grapes. This Mercurey exhibits classic young
Pinot Noir aromas of fresh raspberries, cherries and plums; on the palate it is
succulent, delicate and fine, with the medium body one
associates with Mercurey, crisp acidity to balance the sweetness of fruit and a
pleasing, medium-length finish. Drink now-2010, and serve lightly chilled to
enhance the fruit.
