2006 Barbera d'Asti, Montebruna, Braida, Piedmont
|
|
You may be more familiar with Barbera d'Alba, the `other' grape of many a
Barolo and Barbaresco producer's portfolio, yet one forced to make do with
second string vineyards, in deference to Nebbiolo. Barbera d'Asti however has
the pick of the best limestone-rich sites, giving perfumed beauties. One's
struck by the wine's exhilarating scent, a product of its limestone soils
perhaps, suggesting vibrant bitter black cherry stone notes while the
mouthfeel's compact, full of poise, with flavours combining crunchy black fruit
and invigorating acidity. Delicious with rich, salami pasta dishes.
