1999 Pol Roger, Brut Réserve
|
|
"A rich forward and wonderfully flamboyant Pol, made from the usual 60% Pinot
Noir, 40% Chardonnay blend, sourced from 20 villages, mostly Grand Cru ( the
balance Premier cru) from the lower Montage and upper Côtes and then aged
for 48 months. Honied, balanced and finely structured, this is the best 99
Champagne I have tasted so far. Approachable now, but by no means lacking in
complexity."

Very opulent and glorious and exotic. Solid and maybe slightly richer than
some. Very hedonistic. Rich. Real crowd pleaser - as my daughter's wedding
proved. The exotic perfume just soared out of the glass long before anyone had
tasted it.
