2007 Carignan, Vin De Pays du Mont Baudille, Domaine Familongue

Old-vine Carignan is quite a popular term these days, its implication being that because the vines have been there a long time, that they has acquired a mysterious veneer of quality that is sometimes lacking in this, the putative work-horse variety of the region. Caveat emptor! Some old vine Carignan is better than others, and this is one of the best. Familongue have a knack of making wines that are rich, full bodied and yet replete with local colour and personality. Marinated dark fruits, souisbois and a hint of licorice are evidenced here, the palate is full but rounded, the finish clean and satisfying. One for sanglier or boudin noir!(Simon Field MW, BBR Buyer)
