Jacquesson’s Late Disgorgement strategy has hitherto been modest in
scope; indeed the numbers of bottles released has been extremely modest, with
only 720 bottles of the excellent 1988 available in total. 1988 was a year
which started badly, metreologically speaking, but finished with a sunny
flourish. Some houses recognised the wines’ ability to age by releasing
them after the more flamboyant 1989. Well suited to the DT process, in that
case, the 1988 DT was finally disgorged in the Autumn of 2008.
Made from 50% Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with a typically low 3 grams of
residual sugar, this is a fine and mature statement from a house which believes
above all in the eloquence of the soil and the character of the fruit. In
alliance, with 20 years of yeast ageing to boot, they have created a wine of
class and precise delineation.
