2006 Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl, Domaine Zind Humbrecht

Clos Windsbuhl's lofty cool site, shaded by the nearby forest (home to raiding sanglier!) was late to ripen, despite the warming influence of the Muschelkalk rocks strewn across the vineyard. The result was a late harvest, almost VT given the 32 grams of residuel sweetness yet the wine remains cooly composed, the nose breezily light with fresh rose petals and floral notes; the palate showing such finesse, fleshy lychees, of detailed stony power and subtle persistence. What a great vineyard. Off-dry. Great with cheese or terrines.
