2003 Mouchão Tinto (Alentejo) Herdade do Mouchão

One of the great Portuguese wines, Mouchao is, interestingly, far more expensive to buy in Lisbon than London. Having survived the rigours of the Revolution, and constantly braving the summer intensity of the Alentejo, the Richardsons continue to nurture this wonderful and idiosyncratic wine, its mainstay being foot-trodden Alicante Bouschet. Spice, sousbois and meaty intensity, hints of liqueur de cassis and Provencal herbs, or their Portuguese equivalent; a wine for the patient, for the game.
