2004 Pago de los Capellanes Reserva, Ribera del Duero
From the clay and limestone soils of the high plateau of Pedrosa, in the heart of the Denominacion, this aromatic Reserva is made up of 90 % Tinto Fino (as Tempranillo is known in these parts) and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, a not-unusual addition to quality reds here, lending tannic intensity to the savoury fruit-rich flavours.

The wine has benefited from eighteen months in new French oak and has been bottled unfiltered. The quality of the grapes, allied to the excellent reputation of vintage and Bodega alike, ensure that this is a top class example. (Simon Field MW, BBR Buyer)

2004 Pago de los Capellanes Reserva, Ribera del Duero
The 2004 Reserva was sourced entirely from estate fruit. It is composed of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon which spent 18 months in French oak and was bottled unfiltered. Purple-colored, it has an uplifting perfume of pain grille, scorched earth, violets, cinnamon, and blackberry liqueur. This leads to a medium-bodied, dense, super-concentrated, spicy wine with layers of flavor. It nicely conceals enough tannin to permit 4-6 years of further evolution in the bottle and should provide pleasure through 2025.

2004 Pago de los Capellanes Reserva, Ribera del Duero
From the clay and limestone soils of the high plateau of Pedrosa in the Ribera del Duero, this aromatic Tinto Fino-based (aka Tempranillo) red with a splodge of Cabernet Sauvignon, is richly concentrated in mulberry and black cherry fruit aromas and flavours and framed by a veneer of stylish, spicy new oak and bright damsony acidity. A good five years life ahead of it.
