2006 La Rosa Reserve, Quinta de la Rosa, Douro

A blend of indigenous grapes (20% Touriga Nacional, 10% Tinto Cão and a host of other varieties). From Sophia Bergqvist's finest vineyards, this has deep colouring with a nose of mocha, raspberries and a hint of oak .The palate is beautifully constructed with expressive fruit and finely-wrought tannins. 2006 was more temperate than its predecessor and the wine has perhaps a more immediate charm and accessibility; good with roasts.

Mid crimson. Toasty and not too obviously alcoholic. Some real Douro character and fire here. Some transparency and refreshment as well as that explosive character of ripe Douro.
