2004 has been great vintage in the Centre and North of Italy, Massimo's Vino
Nobile Riserva captures this and more: a wine for ageing till 2015, the nose is
unsurprisingly compact and closed with plum skin notes and a hint of wild
thyme; to taste, this full-bodied, dense black cherry flavoured wine, aged for
3 years in 500 litre French tonneau, has a refreshing savoury edge as well as
pacy acidity, balancing the sweet succulent fruit at its core.
Compared to the competition, increasingly cut and rounded off with Merlot, this
indigenous blend of Prugnolo Gentile, Colorino, Mammolo retains the pure-breed
quality of the original. A wine apart. Great with game.
