This prime piece of Ribeauville vineyard, on granite and gneiss soils, just
along from Grand Crus Geisberg and Kirchberg, belongs to Andre Ostertag's
viticulturalist Hubert Mathis (et ses heritiers). The style of wine follows
that of its neighbouring peers, a refined, dry (2.8 grams of residual sugar)
sinewy wine of significant race and breed; and one that nonetheless shows the
fleshy character of the vintage.
The nose rings with ripe nectarine, of mandarin flowers, even of fresh
apricot, while the cool, minerally palate is crunchy pure with deliciously
bright greengage fruit flavours, refreshed by a scintillating, cleansing
acidity. Fabulous and still in its infancy. Drink with smoked salmon.
