2006 Finca Dofi, Alvaro Palacios

A big, show-stopper nose here with a touch of fudge and chocolate to a smooth cocktail of plummy, blackcurrant fruit with a nice little edge of something wild and gamey. The mouth is rather dominated by big, dry tannins at present, but the fantastic structure of this wine begins to give way just enough to let the sweet, deep black fruit come through. Long and beautifully focused for the future.

From a famous South-facing Single Vineyard, Finca Dorfi is aged for 19 months in new French barriques. It is a blend of 60% Garnacha, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Syrah. The wine is beautifully perfumed, with spice to the fore. The palate is extremely complex, with notes of lavender, thyme, orange peel and aniseed in addition to dark-berried fruit. The tannins are very finely managed and the over-all effect is most impressive.

9 hectare property. 55% Garnacha, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah. Ripe, expressive plum and dark cherry nose, with aromatic spiced flowers, strawberry and cherry. Dry tannin, sensual complexity of aromas, blackcurrant, spice, fruit cake and stately length.
