2007 Heggies Vineyard Chardonnay, Eden Valley, South Australia

With its elevated, granitic topography, Eden Valley is undoubtedly one of Australia's finest, coolest terroirs. This single-vineyard Chardonnay personifies these qualities: bright with pure, roasted hazlenut and freshly baked bread aromas; the weightier, buttery, lemon/lime, herb and creamy characters on the palate reminding us of its Aussie zip code. A worthy alternative to good Maconnais, especially with a chicken-based pastry dish.

The single vineyard 2007 Chardonnay is light straw-colored with an excellent bouquet of toasty oak, mineral, pear, apple, and white peach. On the palate, it is reminiscent of a mid-level white Burgundy in its medium-bodied style and elegance. Nicely balanced, it should drink well for several years.
