2006 Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir, Bien Nacido, Santa Maria Valley, CA

2006 saw cool temperatures reversed by an Indian summer, creating well structured Pinots with no over-ripeness to be seen. Jim 'Wild Boy' Clendenen definitely took advantage of this with his Bien Nacido.

The brooding, meaty nose of sweet herbs, cassis and ripe blackberry is followed in the mouth with fresh red fruits, smoked meats and fruit cake, whilst a cloak of finely grained tannins and refreshing acidity, lighten the palate and add great structure to the finish. This wine is opening up wonderfully and will match barbecue now and pheasant into the autumn.
