2006 Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir, Bien Nacido, Santa Maria Valley, CA
(code: 71117B)
The inimitable, signature house style of all ABC wines is one thing that I much
I love, but I also much appreciate the fact that each vineyard/cuvee offers the
drinker something totally different. The Bien Nacido is an obvious step up from
the Santa Maria and has a fabulously enticing nose of red cherry and a touch of
pepper spice. The fruit is pure, fresh and quite primary on the palate, without
being too much of a 'fruit bomb'. There is depth here, and it has
something to please everyone, including the Burgundy purists. I’d prefer
to drink this early (within the next 5 years) although it can improve further
with age.
