The nose displays crushed blackcurrants and a slight floral element on the nose but the palate has a much darker, richer character. This is silky and voluptuous and incredibly ‘moreish’. Delicious.

In the early days I wondered if André may be trying almost too hard with
his top wines. His 2007s tend to make light of such an opinion. Indeed whilst
certainly not light, this wine is amazingly supple, the old-vine fruit lending
notes of kirsch, chocolate and figs, and an almost balletic elegance despite
its power.

There are three cuvees of Rasteau, all of them outstanding. The dark
ruby/purple-hued 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Rasteau Cuvee Prestige possesses
a velvety personality crammed with kirsch liqueur, blackberry, charcoal, and
chocolate characteristics. Spicy, full-bodied, pure, and remarkably supple and
approachable for a young Rasteau, it should be drunk over the next 10-12
years.
