Winemaking is relatively traditional at Pesquera, with only Tempranillo
(locally known as Tinta Fina) employed, and 24 months aging in American oak for
the Reserva which serves to coax gentle velvety yet wonderfully rich flavours.
The essence of Ribera Del Duero is thus captured, with all the sensual harmony
of traditional Spanish winemaking, but with perhaps more concentration and
structure than wines aged in a similar fashion in Rioja. The wine has an
attractive ripe cherry colour and then whiffs of well-seasoned fruit, backed up
by notes of cocoa and vanilla. On the palate dark forest flavours are
generously wrapped around the fruit. Full-bodied yet refined, this wine is
delicious with game.
