Despite the lofty location of some of his vines, Pierre Gaillard’s
Condrieu usually comes from the viscous, perhaps one should say decadent, end
of the spectrum. The 2008 is no exception. This may be a result of the extended
oak fermentation, or the repeated stirring of the lees, which adds shape and
weight. Whatever the secret may be, the result is always terrific, and
invariably one of our most popular Condrieus. Peach and apricot bask in a
luxuriant honied richness, yet all is firm of structure and resplendent of
purpose.
