Of all Castello di Ama's wines, it's their single vigna/vineyard 'Bellavista' which, for me, captures all the magic of top Chianti Classico. Complemented by some 20% Malvasia Nera and this very good vintage, this fine Sangiovese reminds me somewhat of Gevrey, with its linearity, sense of balance, as well as weight. Impressive indeed, even now or lay it down for a decade to get the full effect. Great with game.

Sangiovese with about 20% Malvasia Nera. Very old vines. The first vintage of this wine was in 1978. Piquant cranberry nose, orange zest. Elegantly spicy on the palate, tingling with pepper and cinnamon over delicate but very intense fruit. Finely sculpted tannins. Aristocratic.
