The charming Alexander van Beek has made yet another classic wine at Ch. du Tertre. Soft, light and pretty, this is an elegant Margaux with a rich, silky red fruit nose and beautiful pure fruit on the palate. Very fine-grained, almost powdery tannins add to this neat little package which has been made from the lowest yields for ten years (28hl/ha); a quaffable little beauty.

Solid purple-red, concentrated, slightly smoky black fruits, good earthy concentration on the palate, good, could be more complex. Drink 2014-20.

Toasty, mildly cocoa nose. Very pretty texture – not forced. Reminds of du Tertre’s style. Neat. Complete, but a bit forward. Very slightly rasping tannins on the finish.

On three separate occasions the 2008 seemed feral and stinky. The wine is soft with some up-front appeal, but overall it is undistinguished.

This property has been making very fine wines, so I was surprised the 2008 Du Tertre did not perform better on the two occasions I tasted it. Judgment reserved.

This has a light, earthy nose with good definition, cedar and sous-bois, just a hint of black tea. The palate is very fine with pure black fruits, cedar, a touch of vanilla, svelte, fully ripe tannins and well balanced on the finish. This is a great success for the vintage. Sorbet-like finish.
